Isola’s priorities in Klima 2050

1.     Blue-green roofs
In the future, roofs and terraces ought to a larger degree than today to be included as a part of the local surface water handling. We aspire to develop technology related to blue-green roofs and –systems. Our main interest in the field consists in membranes and drainage systems.

2.     Moisture resilient wooden roofs
Well-isolated wooden roofs in large and complex constructions, especially with solar systems integrated into to the shell of the building, constitute an important development and business area for Isola in the years to come. This field of technology provides roofing with new and more integrated functions. Our experience so far indicates that moisture resilience is a key factor in the development of the concept.

3.     Basements
Local handling of surface water often implies an increased strain to the building construction under surface level. We intend to develop systems and products for drainage and moisture protection that are included in surface water handling systems.

4.     Stabilization systems
We look at Klima 2050 as an important launching possibility for new products within the field of securing terrain in order to avoid landslides caused by water. We have a strong competence in the field of membranes, sought for by the participants of Klima 2050.

Finance Norway’s priorities in Klima 2050

The entire financial services industry sector in Norway needs more knowledge of the effects of climate change on existing buildings and how new buildings ought to be secured against the effect of climate change. This concerns both construction methods and use of materials, as well as maintenance and upgrading of existing structures. Climate change and their effects on buildings will influence the manner in which to design insurance products and the scope of cover for insurance, health concerns will influence life insurance, and credit assessment for financial institutions. Cost effective solutions for “climate adapted buildings” is a main concern for the entire financial services industry.

For the insurance industry, increased knowledge of and development of measures for handling surface water will be a central foundation for development of the own models for risk assessment of future insurance objects. It is important to find adequate manners by which to reduce the risk on urban areas that already are so densely built the maneuvering space is limited. Solutions that can provide good strategies for increased density in urban areas are sought for. This involves among other subjects enabling creative solutions for green areas in different areas and at different levels.

Landslides occurring because of increased rainfalls is equally an area that will be of great importance. Significant local downpours can initiate landslides in places which are today unknown. Knowledge and methods developed in order to meet these challenges can be of great importance for the insurance industry. This may include both knowledge concerning where and why such landslides can occur, and what can be done in order to prevent them or reduce their damage.

Mesterhus’s priorities in Klima 2050

Mesterhus have the following main goals for participating in Klima 2050:

1.     Further developing moisture safe roof and facade solutions
Modern construction is characterised by a steadily increasing diversity of shapes and construction solution of roofing. We equally envisage an increased use of solar systems integrated into the roof and façade. Increased use of large flat wooden roofs constitutes a challenge. Our experience indicated that the challenge to a significant extent is influenced by climatic conditions.

2.     The development of blue-green solutions both for single houses and larger development projects
The handling of surface water is a challenge of increasing significance, and needs cooperation between building design and area development. There is a lack of good solutions within this field.

3.     Effective decision processes
Being able to construct houses characterised by high quality and acceptable prices does not depend solely on technical solutions. Of equal importance is a good cooperation between central actors and effective decision making processes.

Multiconsult’s priorities in Klima 2050

The proposed main focus areas for Multiconsult’s participation in Klima 2050 are:

1.     Development of moisture safe buildings
Modern building technology and a changing climate change will require development of innovative solutions for roofing and façade solution of buildings in the context of a wet terrain. This is related both to construction elements and building technology. Operation and maintenance in a whole lifecycle perspective is crucial. Multiconsult would for instance develop new methods and tools for:

  • Climate and building data presentation, visulalising scenarios for stakeholders and decision makers in for instance municipalities and building companies.

  • Best available technology for upgrading existing buildings and safeguarding cultural heritage.

2.     Water initiated landslides and erosion
Multiconsult has a large team of hydrologists, geologists and environmentalists focusing on risk analyses and mitigation measures for erosion and landslides.  In Klima 2050 we would like to focus on innovation for developing holistic tools, to be used by stakeholders and decision makers, for forecasting and visulalisation/integration of data in GIS an 3D models, such as;

  • local rainfall/runoff, flooding – and water level calculation,

  • erosion-, landslide and flood insurance,

  • flood diversion and retention

3.     Storm water management in the urban landscape
Climate change and urbanization demands new and innovative solutions for storm water management, especially in urban areas. We are especially interested in development of blue-green solutions for area- and landscape planning and for upgrading of existing storm water management systems. Multiconsult would focus on developing a holistic model for efficient size calculation of culverts and waterways running through roads and railways that have local flood and landslide hazards. Freshwater ecology and biodiversity would also be considered as the model processes the data. Results would be presented and visualized with GIS and 3Dintegration.

4.     Effective decision processes
There is a large potential for innovation related to improve methodology and support system for decision processes regarding to both risk assessment and management and to risk mitigation in the planning process. Multiconsult has already done has some work in this area, and we would utilize our participation in Klima 2050 to develop new methods and tools for holistic presentations and visualisations for stakeholders and decision makers. Multiconsult would be particularly interested in capitalizing on our unique position to put the developed tools in to practice both nationally and internationally.

Norgeshus’s priorities in Klima 2050

Norgeshus’s main interest in Klima 2050 is moisture safe buildings and handling of surface water in development areas.

Leca’s priorities in Klima 2050

Leca want Klima 2050 to enable us to develop the following solutions:

1.     Moisture safe outer walls
We wish the development of outer wall solutions that are optimal with respect to maintenance and that provide robust moisture solutions for use both over and against terrain.

2.     Urban flooding prevention
In order to handle surface water locally on plots, it is necessary to develop the concept of blue-green solutions. We see that Leca-pellets can constitute a key element in the concept. Our interest lies in contribute to the development of complete systems for green roofs and surface water handling on plots.

3.     Light embankments for landslide prevention
Landslide prevention is a market with which we aim at getting further involved in. We intend to develop our solutions for lightweight embankments to be effective measures against landslides initiated by water.
